Dex was adopted in December http://sunshinecoastspca.blogspot.com/2011/12/dex-ollie-and-jethro.html and we have just received a wonderful update on how he is doing along with some pictures . . . Dex (now named Django) has come a long ways in a few months!
Hi Serafina & everyone else over there:
Thought I would send you a few photos of Django (who used to be Dex). It's been a month and a half now, and he is really settling in, making very good progress, and has been trying very hard. I've been constantly impressed and delighted by what a great dog he is. We had some chewing, nipping & jumping issues when he first came home, but they are becoming toned down now, he is learning steadily what constitutes good behavior. He stills needs training progress, especially for commands such as Come, Lie Down, Stay, Leave It -- he is enrolled in an obedience course in the Abbotsford area for 6 weeks starting March 3, I think that will help a lot.
Shortly after I brought him home, I took him out to local nature trails and tried off-leash, and was thrilled to find out he simply doesn't run away -- he goes maybe 30-40 feet ahead and then looks back to make sure I'm coming, and is a wonderful off trail nature hiking dog, far better than I could possibly have anticipated.
He is also terrific with other dogs. We've been to the big off leash park in West Vancouver a couple of times, and it was immediately clear that the dog breed he enjoys playing with most are Labrador Retrievers (any color), if he meets one of them, he sticks with it. Coincidently, this past weekend we encountered a young Chocolate Lab stray here in Hope, walked right up to him in our front yard. Obviously a dog that had just got out of someone's yard, because it was so late on Friday I kept the dog for the weekend, until the local ByLaw Officer could pick it up (turned out he knew whose dog it was & it was safely returned to them Monday morning). Well, Django and this Lab just hit it off completely, and played endlessly all weekend, for hours at a time.
Anyway, just letting you know this has been a completely successful adoption, he is thrilled with his new home & life, and I am thrilled in every way with him.
Thanks again for all your help & support back in December.
Peter
Way to go Dex!
And thank you to Peter for seeing through the rambunctious and unruly Dex and seeing the diamond in the ruff he truly is/was !
